"Wo Aggerfluss und Täler lauschen, die Heide blüht, die Wälder rauschen, wo Lohmar liegt, vertraut beiseit, die Hallen stehen von Walterscheid."
In his "Lied der Arbeit" (Song of Work), Bernhard Walterscheid-Müller, successor to company founder Jean Walterscheid, expresses his intimate ties with his home town of Lohmar. When the factory in Siegburg grew too small in the early 1950s, he chose Lohmar as the new headquarters for the company. Lohmar became the worldwide centre of agritechnical engineering.
The location on the right bank of the Rhine still has numerous points in its favour today: Lohmar offers optimum traffic links and is close to key European markets, especially France.
Walterscheid won the 2001 Environmental Engineering Award of Rhein-Sieg Rural District for the development of an innovative, environmentally friendly oil-in-water emulsion for hardening steel. As Managing Director Peter Röttgen puts it: "Our actions are based on the principle of sustainability. That applies not only to our business strategies, but equally to the way we deal with our employees and the resources entrusted to us. And that also means that we feel a sense of responsibility for the region in which our business has is roots."
One example of our commitment: Walterscheid financed an independent budget appraisal for Lohmar Town Council, the results of which are taken into account in the town's budget and financial planning. The citizens of Lohmar also benefit from another project: the 2003 Lohmar Community Run is "powered by Walterscheid".
